DIRECT MARKETING DESCRIPTION

Long before direct marketing became the buzz word of the 1980’s, direct marketing had been implemented by a large number of successful companies and institutions that understand the tremendous power of direct marketing. While direct marketing can be made up of a number of different strategies, one might wonder, what exactly is direct marketing?

One direct marketing description may refer to the fact that there is no intermediary between your organization and your customer. This customer may be an established customer or a prospective customer. It very simply is a one-on-on relationship between the company and the customer. This may be through the use of a direct mail piece or an email sent to a customer or prospective customer. The strategy that your company chooses to implement to establish this one-on-one relationship may influence the results or success of this company.

Another more specific direct marketing description is telemarketing. This type of direct marketing occurs when an individual representing your company contacts an individual via telephone either to sell them a product or gain information in the form of feed back regarding a product or service through the means of answering a series of questions or survey.

A second specific direct marketing description is door-to-door selling. This takes place when a representative of your company goes to the home (usually unannounced) of a potential customer with the purpose of selling a product or service.

A third specific direct marketing description is e-commerce. This involves advertising on-line by sending emails in the form of personalized letters, postcards or newsletters or perhaps even establishing an on-line store where your company’s goods or services can be purchased.

The goal of direct marketing is to continue to create, establish and maintain one-on-one relationships between an organization and its customers. Direct marketing description is not limited to an advertising medium or tool. It is not just a vehicle to deliver goods or services to a customer. It is a whole way of marketing intent on keeping the customer in a direct relationship.
