DIRECT MARKETING IDEAS

When it comes to direct marketing ideas, the sky is the limit.

If you can remember the 3 B’s of direct marketing, you ill be able to create a never ending list of successful direct marketing ideas.

The first “Be” to consider when developing direct marketing ideas is to BE CREATIVE. Set aside time each and every day to brainstorm new direct marketing ideas. Keep a notepad with you throughout the day. Any time a new idea comes to you, jot it down. Keep a notepad at your bedside. Those ideas that wake you up in the middle of the night are often the most spectacular. Unfortunately, if not recorded, those middle of the night ideas will be lost by the time morning arrives. Keep all your notes in a file - you never know when one of these ideas will be useful!

Some practical direct marketing ideas may include developing a series of postcards or letters that are sent to customers that follow up on information or remind them of an upcoming event.

If you are using letters, include a small bonus such as a calendar that can fit inside a wallet or has a magnetic backing so that your customer can place this on the refrigerator at home or a file cabinet at work. Don’t forget to include your name, logo and phone number!

A second “Be” to consider when developing direct marketing ideas is to BE PROACTIVE. Don’t let your competition beat you. Subscribe to marketing newsletters or publications so that you can stay current with competitor’s direct marketing ideas and trends. If you are a small business owner, get out there for a “marketing blitz”. Develop a flier that can be placed on a car windshields or have a door-hanger printed with information about your business. Canvas the local neighborhoods that surround your business.

A third and final “Be” to consider when developing direct marketing ideas is to BE FLEXIBLE. Find out what your customer’s needs are by requesting feedback. Be flexible to adapt your direct marketing ideas and strategies. What worked five years ago, or even last year, may not be as effective as new market strategies used today. Many companies are just now realizing the tremendous benefits of the Internet, but many companies are being left behind because they are not flexible enough to adapt to the technological changes that are occurring. Those who are flexible will reap the most benefits.

All of these direct marketing ideas and guidelines will go a long way in ensuring the success of your company’s direct marketing efforts.
